Florida law does not require you to give your name or explain why you want the records. That applies in Orange County just like everywhere else in the state. Standard copy fees are 15 cents per single-sided page and 20 cents for double-sided. If your request takes more than 30 minutes of staff time, the office may charge for labor. They will provide an estimate first. For a statewide criminal history check that covers Orange County and all 67 Florida counties, FDLE charges $24.

Orange County Arrest Records and the Law

Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes makes arrest records in Orange County open to the public. Section 119.01 says all state, county, and municipal records are available for personal inspection and copying. This includes mugshots, booking details, charge sheets, and bond information from the Orange County jail. The sheriff must make these records available to anyone who asks.

Some narrow exceptions exist. Under Section 119.071(4)(d), booking photos of current or former law enforcement officers can be withheld if the officer files a written request with the agency. This protects officer safety. Victim information in sexual offense cases is also confidential under Section 119.071(4)(h). Outside of these specific exemptions, Orange County arrest records are fully public. The Attorney General has confirmed this position in multiple opinions.

How Orange County Bookings Work

The Orange County jail handles a large volume of bookings. The process starts when law enforcement brings an arrested person to the facility in Orlando.

During booking in Orange County, staff handle these steps:

  • Take the mugshot photo
  • Record name, date of birth, address, and physical details
  • Log all charges from the arresting officer
  • Set bond amounts based on the charge schedule
  • Check for warrants in other jurisdictions
  • Enter data into the jail management system

Because the Orange County database updates every 30 minutes, new bookings show up in the online system fast. The 9th Judicial Circuit Court handles all criminal cases from Orange County along with Osceola County. People in the Orange County jail stay until they bond out, get released by the court, or transfer to state prison or another facility.

Removing Orange County Mugshots

To remove a mugshot from the Orange County system, you need a court order for sealing or expungement. Sealing under Section 943.059 hides the record. Expungement under Section 943.0585 destroys it. Both require an application through the FDLE seal and expunge process. The fee is $75, paid by money order to FDLE. It takes about 12 weeks to process.

Once the order goes through, the Orange County Sheriff removes the record from their public inmate search and databases. However, mugshots already copied to third-party websites remain. Private sites are not required to take them down. Contact FDLE at 850.410.7870 or SEinfo@fdle.state.fl.us for questions about seal and expunge applications for Orange County records.

Note: Arrests that ended in acquittal or dropped charges still require a formal expungement order before the Orange County Sheriff will remove the mugshot from public access.
