Search Miami-Dade County Mugshots
Miami-Dade County has an inmate search that lets you look up people currently in the jail system. This is the quickest way to find Miami-Dade busted mugshots. You can search by name or booking number to find the mugshot, charges, bond amount, and other booking details. The main jail is at 2525 NW 62nd Street in Miami.
Because Miami-Dade is the most populous county in Florida, it has a high volume of arrests daily. Multiple law enforcement agencies operate in the county, including the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Miami Police Department, and police departments in Hialeah, Miami Gardens, Miami Beach, Homestead, Doral, and many other cities. All of these agencies bring their arrests through the Miami-Dade County jail booking system. That makes the county database one of the most comprehensive in the state for arrest records.
The Miami-Dade Police Department website is shown in the screenshot below and serves as a starting point for finding arrest and public records information.
Statewide resources also cover Miami-Dade County. The Florida Department of State maintains a directory of jail search tools for all 67 counties. The Florida Jail Information System pulls booking data from agencies across the state, and you can search for recent bookings within 24, 48, or 72 hours.
Miami-Dade Arrest Records Under Florida Law
Arrest records in Miami-Dade County are public under Florida's Chapter 119 public records law. This covers mugshots, booking details, charges, bond amounts, and police reports. The law states that all state, county, and municipal records are open for personal inspection and copying. You can make an anonymous request. Florida does not require you to provide your name or a reason when asking for Miami-Dade County arrest records.
There are exemptions under Section 119.071. Booking photos of current or former law enforcement officers can be held back if the officer files a written request with the employing agency. In a county the size of Miami-Dade, with thousands of law enforcement officers across dozens of agencies, this exemption does come up. Victim information in sexual offense cases is also kept confidential. Under Florida law, email addresses are public records, so any email you send to the Central Records Bureau becomes part of the public record for Miami-Dade County.
Note: The information in a Miami-Dade arrest record reflects the charges at the time of booking and does not indicate guilt or final case outcome.
Miami-Dade County Records Services
The Central Records Bureau in Miami-Dade County provides several types of records. Arrest forms show the details of an arrest including the mugshot, charges, date, and arresting agency. Police reports cover incidents investigated by the Miami-Dade Police Department. Florida Traffic Crash Reports are also available through this office.
Police Clearance Letters are a service that many people request from Miami-Dade County. These letters confirm whether or not someone has an arrest record with the department. Contact the Central Records Bureau at 305-471-3220 or email recordsrequest@mdso.com to request one.
Standard copy fees in Miami-Dade County follow state guidelines. Single-sided pages cost 15 cents. Double-sided pages are 20 cents. Certified copies may cost up to $1.00 per page. Miami-Dade Statewide Search Tools
For people who have gone from the Miami-Dade County jail to the state prison system, the Florida Department of Corrections offender search shows their current status and location. This is a separate database from the county jail system. Statewide criminal history checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement cost $24 and cover all 67 counties, including Miami-Dade. Contact FDLE at 850.410.8109 for these requests.
The Miami-Dade Police Department also works with federal agencies. The FBI and DEA both have offices in Miami. Arrests made by federal agencies in Miami-Dade County go through the federal court system rather than the county jail. Those records are handled differently from county arrest records. For federal cases, check the federal courts system instead of the Miami-Dade County databases.
Miami-Dade Mugshot Removal
To remove a mugshot from the Miami-Dade County system, you need a court order to seal or expunge the record. Sealing under Section 943.059 of the Florida Statutes makes the record invisible to public searches but keeps it accessible to law enforcement. Expungement under Section 943.0585 physically destroys the record. Both options go through the FDLE seal and expunge section.
Contact FDLE at 850.410.7870 or email SEinfo@fdle.state.fl.us. The processing fee is $75 by money order payable to FDLE. It takes about 12 weeks from the time they get your completed application. Once approved, the Miami-Dade County police department removes the record from public databases. Private mugshot websites, however, are not required to remove photos even after a Miami-Dade County court order. That is a separate legal matter from the county record itself.
Note: Florida law generally limits you to sealing or expunging one arrest record in your lifetime, with some exceptions for juvenile cases.
